Torbjørn Soligard is a sports scientist working in the Medical & Scientific Department of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.
His main area of interest is protection of athletes’ health through the prevention of injuries and illnesses in sport. He holds a PhD from the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, where he conducted large-scale research on risk factors and prevention of football (soccer) injuries. Together with FIFA and the OSTRC, he developed the “The 11+” injury prevention program which has been shown to substantially reduce injury rates in football and which today is used by professional and amateur football players worldwide.
He has published (and reviewed) numerous papers in various international, peer-reviewed scientific journals on the science of injury prevention in sport, namely on how injuries can be prevented through appropriate load management and specific physical conditioning.
